Sharing your insights online

This should not be as intimidating as our brains may make it to be. Let’s break this situation down into more manageable tasks.I am not kidding when I say I got inspired to write this post a few chapters deep into the book I am currently reading, Show your Work by Austin Kleon. Even though I haven’t finished reading it, I couldn’t come up with a reason why not to share the thoughts that this reading session sparked in my brain. Sharing our work, our thoughts, and whatever else we feel inclined to do so should not be limited to only sharing the end result! People are also curious about the process as they may be going through any kind of situations and make connections that you didn’t realize they were there at the time of you sharing that piece of content.

Note: Everyone has their own perspective, but that is an entirely different topic to explore.

TLDR

  • Find something you’re curious about.

  • Pick a platform you want to use (based on your content’s medium).

  • Share your work! And repeat.

Find something you are curious about.

If you are lucky and without even having to think about could come up with things you are interested in, that is great! You have a great starting point! Being curious, open minded, and thirsty for learning new things are great tools you can use to your advantage with this specific step. You do not need to be an expert on the subject! Every level of expertise (beginner, moderate, advanced) has valuable insights to share! Often enough, experts in a subject are not as effective of teachers than those who have recently gone through the hardships and learning process that the student is going through.Wanting to learn more is a great way to kickstart your sharing habits as you can use this posts as additional practice, to reinforce what you’ve learned. Capturing your process, thoughts, and anything that you’d like to share with your future self and anyone else that decides to tag along in this adventure.

Pick what platform to share.

This suggestions may seem obvious to some, nonetheless here there are a few options based on your medium:

  • Instagram/VSCO - Photography

  • Youtube - Video

  • Medium - Writing

  • Blogging - Everything! (A free option to get started is Wordpress, and if you have a dev/programming background there is GitHub Pages)

Share your work! And repeat.

There is nothing stopping us from sharing what we are working on frequently. Sharing the struggles and successes we’ve come across will be useful to someone else. This is going to be your first steps into creating an online presence and gaining the opportunity to get discovered by people all over the world! Not only you will have created a safe place to share and document what you are passionate about but also increase your serendipity, if that’s something you care about.
